What happened
The United States has intercepted nearly $3 million worth of illegal fuel shipments headed to Cuba. The fuel, consisting of 90 biodiesel shipments, was being exported to ENETEC S.A., a Cuban state-owned entity sanctioned by the US.
The shipments, totaling around 615,000 gallons of biodiesel, were seized at Port Everglades in Florida and the Port of Houston in Texas. The seizure was requested by Homeland Security Investigations due to suspected violations of federal export laws.
ENETEC S.A. was sanctioned by the US in July over allegations of funneling revenues to the Cuban regime. The US has imposed sanctions on Cuba, citing the country's ties with nations and malign actors hostile to the US, as well as its provision of a safe haven for terror groups.
The seizure is part of the US efforts to enforce sanctions on Cuba and prevent illegal exports to the country. The US has tightened sanctions on Cuba in recent months, with President Donald Trump issuing executive orders targeting the Cuban regime.
