President Trump announced that the United States will not attack Iran before the midterm elections. He stated that despite Iran's poor economic and military condition, the US will maintain a blockade and allow a record number of oil barrels to flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump, 22 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz recently, with none coming from or going to Iran. He emphasized that Iran will not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
The announcement comes after reports that the White House had requested the Pentagon and CENTCOM to draft plans for striking Iran. The conflict between the US and Iran has been ongoing for seven months, with at least 18 US service members killed in the conflict.
