What happened
President Donald Trump stated that the war with Iran will end with a U.S. victory "very soon" and the outcome will be decided "one way or the other." This comes as mediated talks between the U.S. and Iran continue, with the U.S. seeking nuclear concessions from Iran as part of any agreement.
The U.S. is seeking assurances that Iran will honor a new agreement, including commitments such as renewed access for nuclear inspectors. Iran, on the other hand, has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz in return for relief from the U.S. blockade and sanctions, as well as access to frozen Iranian assets.
Trump denied reports that he had offered Iran concessions, stating "I offered them NOTHING!" The U.S. is maintaining its stance that Iran must make concrete nuclear concessions as part of any broader agreement, with Trump emphasizing that allowing Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon would pose an intolerable threat to the region and the world.
The economic pressure on Iran is mounting, with the Iranian rial hitting record lows against the U.S. dollar. The U.S. is also seeking to undercut Tehran's attempt to use control of the Strait of Hormuz as negotiating leverage, with CENTCOM rejecting an Iranian commander's assertion that Tehran has "full control" of the Strait.
