The US State Department has updated its travel advisory for Bahrain, citing the intensifying conflict between Houthis and Saudi Arabia as a reason for caution.
What happened
The updated warning reflects the increasing hostilities in the region, with Iranian-supported Houthis engaging in attacks against Saudi Arabia, including targeting civilian airports and critical infrastructure.
The State Department warned that these hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond the immediate area, posing a risk to Bahrain and other Middle East countries bordering Saudi Arabia.
The advisory also noted that terrorists continue to plot potential attacks in Bahrain, with targets likely including religious sites, transportation hubs, and government facilities.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia has warned of the risk of conflict escalation, advising citizens to exercise extreme caution when using airports in Saudi Arabia.
The State Department has ordered non-emergency government employees and their families in Saudi Arabia to leave the country amid the ongoing attacks.
