A Jewish-American freelance photojournalist was seriously injured in a violent attack in the West Bank. The journalist, Heidi Levine, was attacked by a group of masked men while photographing Palestinian farmers harvesting their olives.
What happened
Levine said she was brutally attacked and pushed to the ground, and the attackers took her phone and cameras. She estimated the attack lasted about 10 minutes and left her with multiple lacerations, a broken rib, four broken vertebrae, and an injured finger.
The US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has asked Israel to prosecute those responsible for the attack, calling it a "despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards". The Israel Border Police has opened an investigation into the attack, and the Israel Defense Forces has strongly condemned the violence.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the facts of the incident remain unclear and are under investigation, but Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone. The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said the Trump administration has asked Israel to "crack down" on violence in the West Bank.
