A recent national survey of midterm voters in the US found that the majority of voters support Israel's right to defend itself, with 85% believing Israel has the right to defend its civilians against armed attacks.
The survey also found that two-thirds of voters support Israel continuing to exist as an independent country, while 16% oppose it. However, there is a significant divide on this issue among Democrats and young voters, with only 53% of Democrats supporting Israel's existence and 41% of voters aged 18-29 supporting it.
Despite this divide, the survey found that Americans overwhelmingly believe that countries have the right to defend themselves, with 95% believing a nation may respond militarily to an attack and 90% believing it may use force to stop an ongoing attack or rescue civilians held captive.
The survey's findings suggest that the divide on Israel is concentrated among Democrats and young voters, with Republicans and older voters being more supportive of Israel's existence and right to self-defense.
