Washington Examiner

US War Secretary Pete Hegseth will announce a 20% reduction in senior military leadership positions for admirals and generals in his State of the Force address.

What happened

War Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered his second State of the Force address on Wednesday. The address was given at 3:00 p.m. from the Marine Corps Base Quantico in Quantico, Virginia.

During the speech, Hegseth announced a reduction in senior leadership positions within the military. Specifically, he plans to cut 20% of the leadership positions currently held by admirals and generals.

This move is part of an effort to align the U.S. military with President Donald Trump's defense policy goals. It follows a previous reduction of 10% in general and flag officers announced by Hegseth in 2025.
