What happened
The US Air Force has withdrawn its B-1B bombers from RAF Fairford in the UK due to concerns over a lingering threat. The decision was made after a security incident near the base on September 27, in which several individuals were arrested on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act.
According to President Donald Trump, the US military had reason to believe that the aircraft faced a threat, and it was decided to move them to alleviate the situation. The move came after law enforcement authorities in the UK responded to a call about suspicious individuals near the base, which has historically hosted US bomber forces.
UK authorities initially arrested five individuals in connection with the security incident, but they were later released on police bail. Another individual, a dual national of the UK and Iran, was arrested on October 1 on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorist acts and was also released on bail.
The US has expressed concerns over potential Iranian involvement in the security incident, with Vice President JD Vance stating that Iran has a history of engaging in acts of terrorism against the US and other countries. However, Iranian officials have denied any link to the incident.
