The United States has withdrawn its bombers from a British air base due to concerns over a potential Iranian drone attack. The move involved about a dozen B-1 planes being relocated from the Fairford air base in the UK. This decision was made after British authorities arrested several individuals for allegedly plotting to attack the base.
According to reports, the US received intelligence suggesting a possible attack, prompting the withdrawal as a precautionary measure. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the planes were moved out of an abundance of caution. The withdrawal occurred amidst a series of incidents involving Iran, including the striking of 11 ships in the Strait of Hormuz over the past week.
Iran has also been engaged in suppressing unrest in its Baluchistan province and has been involved in other regional conflicts. The Iran-aligned Yemeni Houthis claimed responsibility for strikes on airports in Saudi cities and the Yemeni central government's temporary capital. The ongoing tensions have impacted global oil prices, with Brent crude opening at $101 per barrel and US consumer gas prices remaining elevated.
