What happened
Vice President JD Vance has stated that he will not watch the potentially live-streamed execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the perpetrator of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in the attack.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that the execution would take place at Fort Hood, at the same time of day as the original crime, and that it may be live-streamed. However, Vance expressed uncertainty about whether the live stream would actually occur.
President Donald Trump confirmed that he had approved the execution, but suggested that the live stream was still being discussed. The War Department announced that Hasan would be executed by firing squad, a decision approved by President Trump.
Vance emphasized the severity of Hasan's crime, describing it as the worst terrorist attack on American soil outside of 9/11. He also expressed his hope that people would not forget the brutality of the attack, regardless of the controversy surrounding the method of execution.
