What happened
The Yemeni government's air force has carried out 20 airstrikes in the Taiz governorate, targeting positions of the Iran-aligned Houthi terrorist group. The operation reportedly achieved direct hits on Houthi fighters, military equipment, and troop movements.
The airstrikes come as Saudi Arabia accuses the Houthis of attacking infrastructure in Medina, and regional allies rally behind Riyadh. The Houthis have continued their advances in Yemen, with Saudi forces responding with airstrikes and military operations.
The conflict has significant implications for the Red Sea coast, with the Houthis seeking to gain control of the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, through which a substantial portion of global maritime trade passes. The Houthis have maintained that they do not intend to target foreign commercial vessels transiting the strait, but rather focus on the Saudi enemy.
Senior Israeli security officials believe that elements within the Houthi leadership are seeking direct negotiations with Saudi Arabia, and that this could lead to a reduction in attacks against the Houthis and the consolidation of their control over territory already under their authority.
