The Yemeni government has announced a major military campaign to retake control of areas held by the Houthi militant group, an ally of Iran. The campaign aims to recapture all parts of the country controlled by the Houthis, including the capital Sanaa.
The announcement came as the Houthis claimed to have launched successful missile strikes against Saudi Arabia, targeting energy facilities. This escalation follows the breakdown of a years-long ceasefire between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in July.
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister stated that there is no military solution to the conflict with the US, warning that any further military confrontation would be met with a stronger response. The tensions have contributed to elevated oil prices, with Brent crude closing at $102.25 on Friday.
In related developments, the UK's Maritime Trade Operations agency reported another oil tanker attack in the Strait of Hormuz, the third such incident in two days. The average price of regular gasoline in the US was $4.37 per gallon on Sunday.
