Yemeni Houthis Dispute Loss of Territory as Oil Prices Remain High
The American Conservative

Yemeni Houthis deny losing territory to Saudi-backed forces, claim attacks on Saudi targets, as President Trump predicts end to Iran War and decrease in oil prices.

What happened

The Yemeni Houthis have denied claims that they have lost territory on the Red Sea coast to Saudi-backed government forces. A spokesman for the group stated that they have retained full control over their gains. Additionally, the Houthis claim to have launched several attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia, including the main airport in Riyadh.

The Saudi government has confirmed some of these attacks, but downplayed the number of casualties, reporting no fatalities and only three injuries. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has predicted that the Iran War will end soon and that oil prices will subsequently decrease.

Energy prices have risen due to the conflict, posing a challenge for Republican candidates in the midterm elections. In response, Trump has signed an executive order allowing the tax-free purchase of red dye diesel. The price of Brent crude oil has dipped below $100 per barrel amid an increase in Middle East exports, with the average price of regular gasoline in the US standing at $4.37 per gallon.
