Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to criticism from former US President Donald Trump, who called for a new president in Ukraine.
What happened
Trump had announced a deal with Russia to sell diesel to the US and blamed Zelensky for the continuation of the war with Russia. Zelensky appeared on ABC's This Week, stating that it's Russia's fault that the war has continued and calling for a ceasefire.
Zelensky also responded to Trump's calls for an election and a new president, claiming that it's up to the Ukrainian people to choose a leader. He stated that holding an election during the war would be difficult and that a ceasefire would be necessary to ensure the security of the voting process.
Zelensky became emotional during the interview, calling for US support to keep fighting the war and stop Russian President Vladimir Putin. He emphasized that Ukraine counts on American support to defend itself and stop the war.
